2019 Swim Season is off to a great start!

With our first couple weeks of practice, the mock meet, and our first thunderstorm behind us, we’re ready for anything!

MOCK MEET SUCCESS:

Great Job everyone! I am so proud of all our kiddos – we have such a wonderful group of folks in our Village.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered this week at our mock meet! We had several volunteers that were new to their positions tonight and everyone did a great job. I want to say a special shout out to Eddie and Chris for learning the clerk of course duties.   You guys did a fantastic job and had it down by the end of the night.    I also want to say a special shout out to Eric for heading up the timers and getting all the kids times down.
Next week will be our first official meet and I hope everyone is looking forward to it.    If you volunteered in a position that you liked tonight please make sure and sign up on the volunteer sign up sheet.   If you saw a position that you might like to learn let me know and we will make it happen.

Meet the 2019 Board!

During the off season, your CV Swim Team Board of Directors works hard to prepare for the next season, strategize for future years, and consider ways to make swimming an integral part of our community. Please welcome our new and returning members of the this vital leadership team!

Kelly Queen (Board Chair)

Kelly is from Calvert County, Maryland and grew up on the Patuxent River. She has enjoyed water skiing, boating and swimming from a young age. Now with 3 kids of her own, Luke, Tyler & Emmaline, she enjoys watching them find their joy on the neighborhood swim team, playing soccer, basketball, baseball, piano, dancing and playing in the woods. When she’s not tutoring students, volunteering her time on the Cultural Arts board or coaching her youngest sons baseball team, she can be found camping & hiking with her husband, children & 2 dogs, or reading a good book on the beach!

Janice Patriss (Vice Chair)

Janice grew up in Fayetteville, NC. She enjoyed swimming, water skiing, fishing, bowling and tennis from an early age. She has lived in Charleston Village for 17 years with her husband Dan and their 2 children, Lauren and DJ. When she is not working as a compound pharmacist or traveling to watch her son play hockey, you can find her at home with her family, planning the next event for their non-profit, Gamers For Cures, spending time with the local Turner Syndrome Carolinas chapter, teaching her daughter to drive, or just reading a book.

Amanda Lynch (Secretary and Concessions)

Amanda has called several places home. She grew up in Humble, TX, then moved to Boston, where she went to school and met her husband, Eric. They started their lives together there and, ultimately moved to Charlotte, NC, to start a family. They relocated to Apex a couple of years ago with their three kiddos: Andrew, Abby, and Devin. The family finally settled in Charleston Village a year and half ago and have loved getting to know their new neighbors. When she is not working at Girl Scouts, or shuttling her kiddos somewhere, Amanda enjoys cooking, reading, diving into nerd culture, and exploring fun things to do in the area with her family.

Jason Machalicky (Treasurer)

Jason grew up in Los Angeles, California and moved to North Carolina in 2002 to complete his residency training in child psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill. He was compelled to stay in North Carolina after meeting his amazing wife, Stephanie. They moved to Charleston village in 2015 with their two children, Molly and Ellie. He enjoys reading science fiction, playing guitar, eating chocolate and dreaming of ways he can convert his house into a theme park for Halloween. He has really appreciated how the Charleston Village Crocodiles swim team has been such a positive way for the community to connect.

George Pilkington (TSA Representative)

George is a stable and committed member of the Swim Team board. With a no-wasting-time-get-down-to-business attitude, George keeps the board, the team, and the meets on track. When you see George at the pool, ask him about this dog, his kids, and his hobbies, because we’d love to know more about this enigma on the board.

Chuck Jaynes (TSA Representative and Membership Coordinator)
Kelly Jaynes (Ribbons and Awards)

Monica Richardson (Communications Coordinator)

Monica grew up swimming on summer teams and year ’round for a USA Aquatics team in Chapel Hill and has always had a passion for promoting fitness and fun through swimming. As a former lifeguard, pool manager, and educator, and now a nonprofit leader in our community, we are excited to welcome her to the CV swim team board this year. She and her family have lived in CV for 3 years and enjoy hanging out with neighbors, participating in neighborhood events, and keeping their connections local. In her spare time Monica enjoys hiking, crocheting, and drinking excellent coffee.

Kristen Fielding (Fundraising)

Kristen is a native of Vermont and a lover of outdoor adventures. Her family enjoys the community in Charleston Village and she is excited to serve on the board for the first time this year.

Tricia Casey (Volunteer Coordinator)

Tricia grew up in Cary, NC. She has lived in Charleston Village since 2014. She joined the swim team board a couple years back because her family has enjoyed being on the swim team since 2015. She previously held the position of Chair for the past two years. When she is not working as a Property Manager for Bell Partners she enjoys spending time with friends and family, bowling, dancing, reading and time at the beach.

Board Members Needed!!

Parents,

We sincerely hope you have enjoyed swim team this year!

Not only is it a fun and healthy sport for our kids, it’s a great opportunity for kids and parents to meet other families in our neighborhood. Many friendships with neighbors have been made because of swim team!

Sadly though, almost all of the required board member positions will become vacant next year due to either children aging out of swim team or members having reached their term limit.

To ensure swim team continues next year, we need parents to join the board and fill these key positions.

Next year will be the 14th year for the Charleston Village Crocodiles swim team, if it continues. Please keep the fun going for our kids next year and long into the future by joining the CV Crocodiles Swim Team Board now!

To learn more about each board position, visit the Swim Team Board Positions page. For even more information or to join the Swim Team Board, email the board at board@cvswimteam.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

CV Swim Team Board
